Knowing when to book a ski shuttle in Colorado matters more this season than most. Resorts open in October, holiday weekends concentrate demand onto a handful of dates, and every group flying into Denver needs a vehicle on the same few mornings. The short answer: 48 hours is the floor, 7 to 14 days is comfortable for ski-season weekends, and holiday periods need three to four weeks.

Why This Season Is Tighter

Two things are compressing the calendar.

First, the season starts early. Keystone is targeting an October opening, and Breckenridge and Copper Mountain both open on 6 November, with Vail on 13 November. That is three opening weekends inside eight days, all on the same I-70 corridor, all fed from the same airport. Our Colorado ski resort opening dates guide has the full list.

Second, last season was disappointing for snow in Colorado, and interest this year is running correspondingly high. Pent-up demand tends to show up as early booking.

The Dates That Sell Out First

Vehicle availability does not decline evenly across the season. It collapses on specific days.

If your travel falls on one of these, treat the lead times above as minimums.

There are only so many large vehicles in Colorado, and a club of forty needs four of them simultaneously. Multi-vehicle bookings are where early reservation stops being a courtesy and becomes the difference between one operator and three. Our ski club group transportation guide covers organiser logistics.

What You Need Ready to Book

  1. Flight number — enables tracking and automatic delay adjustment on arrivals
  2. Exact passenger count, children included
  3. Full luggage inventory, with ski and board bags counted separately
  4. Precise pickup and drop-off addresses, including building and unit
  5. Car seat requirements with each child’s age and weight

A booking made on estimates gets revised at the kerb. Five minutes of accuracy at the reservation stage prevents the vehicle being the wrong size on the day.

Booking Both Directions

Arrival transfers get booked. Departures get forgotten, and the departure is the leg where a mistake costs you a flight.

Sunday afternoon in ski season is the single worst window for eastbound I-70 travel, and that is precisely when most people fly home. Book the return at the same time as the arrival — the route guides for Vail to DIA and Breckenridge to DIA set out the departure timing you should be working to.

If You Have Left It Late

Same-day and next-day bookings are sometimes possible, particularly midweek. To improve your odds:

Cancellation Policies

Book early, but understand the terms before you pay. Check the cancellation window, whether a deposit is refundable, what happens if your flight is cancelled, and whether dates can be changed rather than cancelled outright.

Weather is the relevant risk here. Check CDOT’s COTrip before travelling and keep your operator informed if your plans shift.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book a ski shuttle in Colorado?

48 hours minimum, 7 to 14 days for ski-season weekends, 4 to 6 weeks for Thanksgiving and long weekends, and 6 to 10 weeks for Christmas and New Year.

Which dates are hardest to book?

The three days before Christmas, 26 to 31 December, Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons through the season, and the Friday of every long weekend.

Do I need longer for a large group?

Yes. Add a week for a single van, two weeks for two vans, and three to four weeks for three or more. Large vehicles are the constraint.

Can I book a ski shuttle at short notice?

Sometimes, particularly midweek. Flexibility on time and vehicle class helps considerably — call (720) 694-7791 rather than booking online.

Should I book my return at the same time?

Yes. Departures are the leg people forget, and Sunday afternoons in ski season are the worst window for eastbound travel.

What if my flight is delayed or cancelled?

Arrival transfers are tracked by flight number and adjusted automatically at no charge. For a cancellation, call dispatch to reschedule — (720) 694-7791.
