The amphitheatre sits at around 6,400 feet, and temperatures drop sharply after sunset — often far below what you left in Denver. Most evening concerts finish between 10:30pm and 11:00pm, which means you are walking uphill to a distant lot close to midnight in near-freezing conditions.
Three things follow:
- Layer properly. A coat, hat and gloves, plus a blanket if you are seated for three hours.
- Arrive early. A close lot matters far more in November than in July.
- Fix your exit in advance. Standing in a rideshare queue for 35 minutes is unpleasant in August and genuinely miserable in November.
The Stairs Problem
From the upper lots you enter near the top of the amphitheatre and walk down to your row — easy going in, an uphill climb on the way out, in the dark, at altitude, in the cold.
From the lower lots you climb a long stairway up to reach the venue before the show even starts.
Either way you are covering serious elevation change on foot. If anyone in your group has mobility concerns, check the venue’s accessible parking and drop-off provisions ahead of time — spaces are limited and generally require arriving early.
The Exit Is the Whole Problem
Getting to Red Rocks is straightforward on any option. Getting out is where they separate.
Thousands of people leave within the same few minutes, through a small number of narrow park access roads, in an area with patchy cell coverage. Rideshare surges steeply, waits run 20 to 45 minutes, and requests get cancelled. The lots take 45 to 90 minutes to clear on a full house.
